Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit is a Ukrainian Hutsul artist, photographer, writer, storyteller, folk philosopher, folklorist, ethnographer and dialectologist.

We discover the meanings encoded in the scarf:

Swallow

When Paraska joined the national liberation movement and became a UPA liaison, her pseudonym was "Swallow".

Photo film

Paraska took more than 4,000 photographs in her lifetime. She was a talented and meticulous photographer. Her photos allow us to see the everyday life of ordinary people who lived in the Carpathians in the second half of the 20th century.

Vytinanka

Since childhood, Paraska was called "Paper Girl" because of her desire to work with paper. Paraska was extremely skilled in the traditional art of carving: she decorated her home with carvings, the covers of her own books, and most often created bookcases decorated with carvings.
